If a family medical emergency occurs while we are deployed, the American Red Cross (ARC) Armed Forces Emergency Services is ready to assist you in the notification and verification process. The ARC will gather information from you:

Examples of reasons to notify the ARC:
Birth
Death of immediate family member
Life-Threatening illness
Life-Threatening accident

Families should contact their local Red Cross chapter, listed in local telephone directories and at Redcross.org, under "Find Your Local Red Cross." If you cannot locate your local chapter, you may call the toll-free number for the National Red Cross Emergency Center at 1.877.272.7337.

Information the ARC will need to assist:
Service Member’s Date of Birth
Service Member’s Social Security Number
Service Member’s Rank and Grade
Service Member’s Deployed Address (if known)
Service Member’s Home Unit Name and Address
Nature of emergency
Agency name and phone number that can verify the emergency

The ARC will then contact the agency involved to get the prognosis of the injury, illness, or the details of the death. From there they will forward all the information to the deployed location.
